The News, Eats & Events Shaping Western New York |
Buffalo Harbor State Park, the city’s first state park, has quickly become a top summer destination for local families.
Set along Fuhrmann Blvd., this waterfront getaway features a massive splash pad with 162 interactive water features—think spray jets, misting arches, and a dramatic dumping bucket—offering kids hours of energetic play.
Next to it, a 6,700-square-foot nautical-themed playground ensures fun for all children and is fully accessible.
Parents appreciate the free parking, shaded seating, swings, and spotless restrooms open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
There’s also an event-ready indoor space and the striking 13-foot Buffalo of Love sculpture, crafted from 2,000 stainless-steel birds by artist Ai Qiu Hopen.
Dogs are welcome in some areas if leashed, but not near the splash pad or playground.

West Seneca parents Dorisha Rodriguez and Dominic Soto are welcoming their daughter, Yemayá India Soto Rodriguez, born June 9 and weighing a remarkable 14 pounds, one ounce.
Hospital staff at Golisano Children’s Hospital in Buffalo noted Yemayá is among the largest babies they’ve ever delivered.
Both mother and newborn are healthy and have returned home to join Yemayá’s 17-year-old sister and 6-year-old brother.
Golisano Children’s Hospital is respected across Western New York for its top-tier pediatric and obstetric care.
As the region’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the hospital is highly prepared for complex cases and specialized newborn care.
The hospital’s recent renaming in January 2026 underscores its commitment to advancing local healthcare for families.
Yemayá’s extraordinary birth highlights both her strength and the hospital’s dedicated staff — an unforgettable moment for the Buffalo community. Read More... |
Gateway Harbor welcomed the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief as it retraced the historic waterway’s route, honoring Western New York’s canal legacy.
The full-scale replica departed Gateway Park in North Tonawanda on June 27 at 9:15 a.m., joined by the E.M. Cotter Fireboat and music from bagpiper Henry Schmitt.
After arriving at Buffalo’s Canalside, the vessel received a warm celebration featuring remarks from local leaders and Indigenous scholar Melissa Parker Leonard, emphasizing the canal’s role in uniting communities.
A symbolic ‘Gathering of the Waters’ tradition concluded the ceremony; water collected from canal communities now nourishes a White Pine at Seneca Bluffs Park, representing unity and sustainability.
The public can tour the Seneca Chief’s new exhibits on weekends all summer, while Canalside features engaging events for families.
In a boost for tourism, Governor Kathy Hochul revealed plans for a modern cruise ship terminal in Buffalo, with construction set for 2026–2028.
These initiatives highlight Buffalo’s dedication to revitalizing its waterfront and celebrating its maritime heritage. Read More... |
